First glimpses
of the sea across farmland are an appetizer for the main course of this walk,
which is passage from the tranquility of Roskilleys ponds to the historic
fishing village of Coverack. |
|
Off shore you can see the star of the notorious Manacles Rocks, which have claimed many ships. The 'John', an emigrant ship sailing from Plymouth to Canada sank here in 1855 with the loss of 196 lives; the 'Mohegan', a luxury liner, was lost in 1898 with 106 lives when she hit the Manacles at full speed. More information can be found about the tragic loss of the Mohegan on the diving page. |

H The pretty village of Helford is set within tranquil surroundings of the Helford River, a paradise of wildlife and very popular spot for boating enthusiasts. From the quiet wooded valley at Helford, this walk crosses fertile farmland before descending to run alongside the National Trust owned Frenchman's Creek, made famous by Daphne Du Mauier's novel of the same name. |
|
This is one of Cornwall's special places and you will often see herons here during the course of the walk. Completion is via the picturesque Penarvon Cove before returning to Helford once again. |
